Fluffy, soft, healthy and super delicious vegan banana chocolate chip cookies! Made in 1 bowl with whole food plant based ingredients, gluten-free, and oil-free!
Don’t you just love happy accidents in the kitchen? That’s what these were. A total happy accident. I had some ripe bananas laying around last week and the idea of banana chocolate chip cookies came about. I really wasn’t fond of the idea, to be quite honest, because I didn’t think I would like them (I am REALLY particular about my cookies). But I went for it anyway because my bananas were going bad. Several devoured batches later, it’s safe to say this recipe was a huge hit! I’ve had multiple people eat these and everyone has raved about them.
I initially made these a little different and they were still really good, but the texture was off and I knew I could improve them. So, I tweaked some of the ingredients to make them softer and fluffier and I am SO happy with the final product and I think you all will love them too! Look at all that FLUFF. So pillowy. So perfect. And so irresistible.
Key Ingredients
These vegan banana chocolate chip cookies are soft and fluffy, made with whole food plant based ingredients like:
oat flour
blanched almond flour
banana
peanut butter
and pure maple syrup!
They taste just like incredibly delicious chocolate chip cookies with a subtle but perfect banana flavor. I didn’t want the banana flavor to be overpowering, but I wanted it there. The awesome thing about these cookies is that not only are they insanely mouthwatering fresh from the oven, but the flavors intensify day after day and they get better and better!
They are super easy to make as well. Just mash your banana, whisk your wet ingredients, add in your dry ingredients, scoop out the dough and bake!
For this recipe, I use a cookie scoop that is 5 cm. Here are the ones I have.
It is best to store the cookies covered on the counter so they stay really soft (if you even have any leftovers). I hope you enjoy this vegan banana chocolate chip cookie recipe!

Vegan Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies [GF, Oil-Free]
Ingredients
Wet Ingredients
- 1 medium ripe banana, mashed well 1/2 cup mashed
- 4 tbsp natural peanut butter this needs to be runny and creamy. not dry or hard
- 3 & 1/2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
- 3/4 cup oat flour certified GF if needed
- 1/2 cup blanched almond flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/3 heaping cup dairy free mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mashed your medium ripe banana well. You will need 1/2 cup mashed banana.
- Next, add your 1/2 cup mashed banana and all of the wet ingredients to the bowl and whisk well.
- Then, add in the dry ingredients, minus the mini chocolate chips, and mix well with a spatula.
- Next, fold in your mini chocolate chips.
- Use an ice cream/cookie scoop for each cookie (I use a medium size 5 cm scoop). Place each scoop on the cookie sheet. Do not flatten (because we want these nice and thick!), top with extra mini chocolate chips if desired.
- Bake cookies on the middle rack for about 13-14 minutes. These will be done when the bottoms are golden brown . Watch closely and make sure to not overbake!
- To keep them extra soft, store the cookies covered on the counter. Enjoy!

Thanks! I haven’t tried freezing them but I assume they would freeze well since the texture is so similar to muffins! 🙂
These are so good and easy to make! Any time I have a couple of ripe bananas I need to use up, I love making these cookies!
These are my absolute favorite cookies! I’m completely obsessed and make them all the time! Highly recommend! 🙂
YAYY! Thank you, Kait! I am so happy you love them!! 🙂
Delicious. I’m fairly new to baking and these were somewhat dry when mixing it all together so I had to form the cookies by hand. Not sure what I did wrong, but the flavor is very good. I will definitely try them again. Would I just increase the peanut butter for more moisture or cut down on the flour? Thanks!
Hi! I would make sure that your nut butter is very runny, a new jar would be best. Not sure why they would have been dry though. It’s possible maybe you used too much flour by accident? You can always add a little milk to the batter if it looks too dry, just a little bit at a time until the consistency is right 🙂
Can I replace the peanut butter with almond butter?
You totally can! They will taste a little different, I prefer the PB taste but it will work
